"Is this necessary?"
Ask yourself at every moment, "Is this necessary?" - Marcus Aurelius.
Often we get plunged into mental quagmire, had I done this way or that way, we could have achieved desired results in our life be it in our career or be it in any domains of life. But problem is, more we look into such effects more we get mental fatigue, and due to these fatigues we restrict ourself from the possibilities of future.
Life is not dependent on the outcome we achieve but it lies in the process itself. Sometime we do unnecessary things which drift us away from the sanctity of the process. To prevent such adrift one must always ask "is this necessary? ". If we do not caliberate our action, it always affect our peace of mind.
On continuing this query, as enmarked by Aurelius there will come a case when we can sufficiently and consequently prevent the sanctity of our path. For those who could remain in this state of mind "Atal Bihari has quoted " in his " कोटि चरण बढ़ रहे ध्येय की ओर निरंतर" -
"पथ पर चलते चलते ही वह राह बन गया,
तिल तिल कर जलते जलते ही वह दाह बन गया,
वह कैसा था भक्त स्वयं भगवान बन गया ,
कुम्ह्कार की कृति होकर निर्माण बन गया ।"
For those who gets drift away because of hedonism are the one who live life till they live. But those who maintain there sanctity are the one who live life for eternity. Here, one must understand very pertinently that sanctity must not be construed narrowly particularly in bodily domain. But more importantly it is sanctity of thoughts which is more important. Not just every action, but every thoughts must be continuously, cumulatively and with commitment must be checked again and again, only then we can preserve our peace of mind. This tranquility of mind makes transformation in life.
