THE PHENOMENON OF TWO INDIA
This sunday I went on to read a very beautifully written book by Nandan neilkeni. which gave The phenomenon of two india or "double hump" like a camel {the euphemism which he used} in indian demography to explain the regional divide of north and south. It is clearly evident not only in demography but in every sphere of development. According to census report BIMARU states comprises of 405 million population where as southern state Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka comprises of 265 million population. Census report also note about the projection of 2020 when BIMARU states average would be around 26 yers and together 4 southern states will be having average age as 35 year as that was of most of countries of European Union during 1980's.
All the above show the projection of the southern state welfare policy and trend towards development, whether be it the standard of living or disease control or sanitation or education problem the outwit the 4 large northern state in every sphere. In terms of MNCs penetration and consumer good uses, nothern states stands nowhere with their counterpart south.
The most staggering reason is deep seated behaviour problem of which persist in north i.e show down of power by powerful against the existing institution not only maligning them but also distorting the channels meant to uplift the forgotten. For e.g the power distance maintained by the non permanent executive and in many cases by permanent executive. This is the reason why after 60 years on independence they still suffer to have basic infra. which act as a launch pad for industries and market.
The divide which was argued by the Amartya Sen {thank god not shushobhan sen!!!!! :-p} of rural urban divide is still persisting and hollowing the aspect of growth model adopted by India, now we are facing another problem of truly regional divide which can creat multi-facet problem like that of some extremist showing son of soil syndrome and elevating the problem of area specific particularistic multiculturism.
