Its "K" again....
Its not the "k" word of hindi silver screens, but a region within the Union. Though both are entirely different topic but theatric involved are clearly same. Kashmir is behaving as a spoiled brat of the Union, never to budged down its demand, no matter what union may offer , and fulfill its basic amenities by providing electricity, water , better mode of governance etc.
The recent spate of pelting stones and politicians gaining brownie points shows the sorry state of affair kashmir has gone in to. After killing of Burhan waṇi, left media and National conference hyping the issue, not just created a void in the political process in the valley but also led to glorification of those who are using stones. It seems left media in general and Burkha Dutt in particular, just for the sake to remain relevant in the political discourse can do anything. Though their mafia kind of approach and hyper clout on information and in media has been broken by social networking sites.
The problems in kashmir though explained on the basis of historicity is more far fetched and in present context a fictitious argument. To my mind kashmir issue resolve around four things, 1. Behavioural determinism with respect to hill people, 2. Ultra cohesiveness of Islamic society 3. Pakistan fishing in troubled water, 4. A narrative generated by media that Delhi and Srinagar are two different contrasting units in a Union .
In the first argument ,determinism of hill people means that people are always averse of new information coming from so called "other people". This suspicion is always fulled by kashmiri politics to garner vote, and it seems abdullahs and muftis are championing this, which could be seen through the 2008 so called intifada then again in 2010 when abdullas were in power. And now after the burhan wani's encounter when muftis are in power.
In second argument, though the liberal left of India would call me a hindu hooligan because of using "I" word but it seems now nobody care and truth is now surfacing and satyameva jayate is triumphing . For long just in the name of protecting minority , reformation writhin the Islamic society has been neglected and this has a bearing in kashmir as well. Here hindu India is seen a curse place to live in and hindu may hurt their Islamic sentiments, this narrative is constantly used by mullahs and separatist to win over people and this is how gilani is still relevant in kashmir issue. One must know ultra cohesiveness may bring the forces which may be detrimental to the law of the land and may bring in sharia which inadvertently creat same issues as it has created in all other theocratic societies.
Though 3rd argument need not require any elaboration but one could add an another dimension where kashmir could be seen as a state where pakistan unity is hinged. Kashmir banega pakistan is a narrative spread successfully by pakistan's military and bringing all constituent units in a single thread. Had their been no narrative of kashmir islam is a far less force to bind all the acronym in a state.
Now the role of media specially the English media in India is very negative with respect to kashmir. They always pamper the jihadi design specially burkha Dutts of India. Though it could be matter of bread and butter for them but on other side it is a matter of life and death for Indian security forces. Though media could portray the burhan waṇi as a son of poor school master, who is engulfed with Islamist ideology but they fail to bring in question of secularism. This spin , far deviation from their own discourse, is now being questioned in social media. They are now caught off guard wrt raising k word with hype.
The recent by poll election attracted merely 2% votes accompanied by skirmishes with the army highlight the grim situation, but this require a firm hand on those who are against the tide of democratic institutions trying to creat their own space. Another K.P. Gill is the call of the day, we do not need chamberlain but Churchill, who can set the record straight either you are with us or against us.
No appeasement , no mercy but only truth where kashmiri means citizen of India, nothing more or nothing less. We fear law here and so each stone pelter must fear the same.
Suggestive measure like using security clause of the instrument of accession to pass a law by parliament wherein stone pelter must to booked and sentenced to jail not in the valley but in other paṛta of India say in bastar jail. Then only this menace could be checked. Other measure like pava shell, and empowering ED to check the full bank account of all the leaders in kashmir may bring the compliance ratio in kashmiri youth and could lead to more sanity. Kashmir is an integral part of India and will remain the same , now Indian govt must actively move to reclaim what we had lost in 1948 , and should bring every inch of territory from the pakistan. If this require a war then it should be but we must become a nation where truth must be revered no matter what the cost may be, then only we can ask for parmanenṭ seat in security council.
