It is not in the pursuits of happiness that we find fulfilment, it is in the happiness of pursuit.

Ram being a social reformer always had to face the stiff resistance from the societal powerful class- who do not want to share power with down trodden, backward people. His close friend Suniti asked a very intriguing question to him-" inspite of knowing that you alone cannot change the entire structure of society, and slow growth in your profession, why don't you change your profession and live a happy life ", rams instant answer was it is not pursuit of happiness that he is seeks but happiness in his pursuit. 

Happiness is nothing but cognitive recognition of some achievement. Now it can come through either enjoying through the fruits of success or we love the process itself. 

In the former case their is always a possibility of zero sum game i.e completion of task will give certain kind of happiness but in the intervening period, we might think we are going through hell. So success will remain a function of material , pshycological accomplishment. Or recognition form outside source like family friend , peer group etc.

But in the second case if happiness is their in what we do, we might end up with joy , sense of learning etc . Their process itself become the end and it will surely give something if not entire success in return. Thus bring satisfaction , fulfilment in life . Locus of gravita will not lie in others recognition for happiness but will remain within ourself . In such cases their is less likelihood that a person move to delinquent activity for his want of being complete.

Had Gandhiji, Nehru , Bose , always craved for the happiness they would have not be able to do the great work they could. Their is very intriguing point in every leader is that she always loves the process in which she is . And that is why leaders are not those who take the team to the laurels of success but they are those who are capable of managing the failures. These can only be done by person who is not running after the happiness but love what he does. 

Indian freedom struggle is full of half filled or even not kept promises from Britishers but if our leader had only valued the accomplishment of their job, then till 1947 their were very few of them. In such cases out leaders would had not  able to sustain themself in due process but they remained, they loved their work, the altruism was at the core of their work. Might be possible because of their ability to abstain from worldly happiness they were able to gain immortality of their name.

People ask what a single men can do, but history has shown us those men who do not seek happiness as an end result but happiness in what they do are the most successfull person. Maharaṇa pratap if had agreed to the subjugation of Mughals would not be remembered as the 1st insignia of revolt against the oppressive foreign rule . Because he loved the independence of his state and was ready to give all sacrifice .

If seen through the sociological point of view then one can take eg. Of women. She feed her children not to get something in return but it is the very nature of motherhood. 

It is not the accomplishment of her task which is her prime concern which give her happiness but the process that she is involved in, is contrued by her as her duty and bring happiness to her, bring fullfillment to her.

Order in nature's system work no matter what the results are. Sun gives light without thinking that it will have positive or negative effect on world env. system, decomposer decomposes the dead without clamouring their achievements, soil fertility produces food grain, no matter what man does to the soil. They are processes self sufficient in themself, without thinking of the end result but it is their nature what they are performing.

If judge becomes an actor in judicial pronouncement their are chances that his own concerns can be trickle down in the judgment but most of the case he keep his predicaments, prejudices away from the proceeding and thus gives a correct judgment, had it not been this way he may endanger justice and could give irrational judgments in a pursuits of his happiness either through grandstanding in society or satisfying his close "cabal".

A scientist with innumerable failure rate , always tries to innovate and remains dedicated to his project. Had this not been the case we would have not got "bulb" as if Edison had pursuit of happiness he would have left after 10 failure or 100 failure but he loved his pursuit because he believed in him and tried 1000 more time to get a bulb. Happiness in his pursuit made him to linger on to his belief . Thus those who accomplish their job will be applauded by few but those who love their job will engrave their name in the anals of history. 

The toughest battles are fought by those who love to do what they do because meek and weak will run away as soon as they see the 1st failure . Thus a "yoddha" is not one who is seeking for happiness but a person who do their work irrespective of the conditions, for these men -happiness follow them, or if not it does not matter to such men. According to  Aṭal bihari Vajpayee -

बाधाएँ आती हैं आयें, घिरे प्रलय की घोर घटायें,

पावों के नीचे अंगरे, सरपर बरसे यदि ज्वालाएँ,

निज हाँथों से हँसते हँसते आग लगाकर चलना होगा,

क़दम मिलाकर चलना होगा, क़दम बढ़कर चलना होगा ।

Such men are contrued as yogi- who disassociate himself from all pursuits of happiness and stick to his passion because remaining in that state will give them more happiness. 

Had nelson Mandela had gone for fullfillment for his happiness and had made truce with apartheid govt of south Africa, instead of facing 27 year of jail . He would have not become what he is to all the African people in particular and world at large. He linger on to the side of truth , he pursued what is right and found happiness in what he stand for.

For such men life is not a podium to play his part but a chance to creat his own play instead.

A security personnel , will do his job more gregariously if he loves his job, and he think that he is doing this just to earn money and with that he will be Happy , he will never be fulfilled with serenity and may infact endanger the security situation. Because his prime concern is towards getting happy after the job  rather then being happy within the job. 

Seeking just happiness in life without virtue will never fullfill our life, a person will be involved in myriads of activities to fullfill his pleasure ,always seek happiness in friends, in places , in smoking , in drinking , in all sort of activity which is outward oriented. These men are actually very empty from inside and flicker as the situation changes.But if a man tries to seek bliss in his one particular job what he does ,he may attain self actualisation. The Confucius , Taoism , Hinduism and all the religion of the world says the same thing happiness does not lies outside but in us. In every time we stick to out moral ground we increase our happiness. That is why we love to help others , or love to cherish life. 

Happiness, if is the want of a men, he may get after accomplishing one task or other , but it will fade away as soon as the site and situation changes so if one want to have happiness permanent in life he must seek truth in action rather then in result. And thus as what ram said to Suniti for real fullfillment we must seek happiness in pursuit rather than pursuit of happiness.
